Monday 8th April – Bike **** Two Rivers – Orwell to the Deben – sunny periods.

Woke to a nice sunny, light wind day in Felixstowe so decided to get on our bikes to test out my new Clarks disc brakes recently fitted by Pauls Bike Repairs and he did a top job at a reasonable price, picking up and returning the bike too, 5 stars from me, highly recommended:) In no hurry so had breakfast while listening too Ken Bruce’s pop quiz before heading down to the prom at the end of our road. It is the first day of the Easter holiday and we were surprised how busy it was with people on the prom and beach making the most of the nice weather. We took it slowly along the prom weaving in and out of the people but cyclists are not frowned on now as it is allowed:) We cross Landguard nature reserve spotting a few twitchers with scopes, parking our bikes at the end by the River Orwell for a quick walk on the beach. There was a fishing boat in really close, we think it was just sorting out their catch of lobster/crabs before heading upriver to Harwich. The It’s back to the prom past the charity beach hut busy selling tea and cake before reaching Bent Hill where Mag heads for home while I continue to the Ferry. At the sailing club I spot Mark and Ed Swain doing a dinghy sailing course before continuing to the jetty which is busy with crabbers and the harbour master is loading up to take a group out on his Deben river trips. I take a few pics around the boat yard, I never tire of it here before returning across the golf course road, turning into Ferry Lane, the grove and home. So out two hours covering 11 miles where I make a salad lunch before heading to the dentist to have a filling replaced, it had only just been done so it was free even if a little uncomfortable! Looks like we are in for a run of NE winds so I hope to get out at Felixstowe tomorrow and then perhaps go to the Stour for some foil practice, going to be a bit chilly but that’s what you get with the wind from the north in April!
